With so much information related to food and health in the literature and media, it is often difficult to
decipher study results and tell fact from fiction. For example, is sugar consumption associated with the
development of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or weight gain? Not all levels of evidence are in agreement.
Meta-analyses of prospective cohort studies offer the highest quality of evidence in nutrition and health, and
must be considered when evaluating whether there is valid evidence to support such claims.
