New Video: Understanding Dietary Intervention Strategies in Controlled Feeding Trials

Randomized controlled feeding trials generate high quality evidence that help researchers better understand the health effects of different foods or nutrients. Accurately interpreting results is essential for translating findings into practice, but it can be challenging to understand the different types of dietary intervention strategies used across trials.

The Canadian Sugar Institute presents a new educational video that explains the three dietary intervention strategies most commonly used in randomized controlled feeding trials.

The video covers:
  • The three main dietary intervention strategies used in these types of feeding trials – addition, elimination, and substitution
  • The strengths and limitations of each intervention strategy
  • The importance of understanding the intervention strategy used when interpreting or evaluating results of a controlled feeding trial

How this video can be used:

  • By students and dietetic interns as a learning resource for research methods
  • By registered dietitians as a continuing education resource to understand controlled feeding trials and accurately apply learnings to practice.

The video has been reviewed by a panel of academic experts in the field of research methods. It is available on our YouTube channel and website in both English and French.
