Protecting your privacy is important to the Canadian Sugar Institute (referred to as "CSI"). This Policy explains how CSI collects, uses, and discloses the personal information you may provide while using www.sugar.ca, any of CSI’s associated sites, including any tools and/or forums (the "Web Site"), as well as the electronic publications, newsletters, and announcements you have access to on the Web Site ("Electronic Communications"). Any personal information you provide to CSI through the Web Site will be treated with care, will be subject to this Policy, and will not be used or disclosed in ways to which you have not consented.

By using the Web Site, you signify your consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information in accordance with this Policy. If you do not agree with this Policy, you may not use the Web Site or any of its features.

Information Automatically Collected

Non-Identifiable Information - The Web Site may automatically collect certain non-identifiable information regarding Web Site users, such as the IP address of your Internet service provider, the date and time you access the Web Site, the Internet address of the website from which you linked directly to the Web Site, the operating system you are using, the sections of the Web Site you visit, the Web Site pages read and images viewed, and the materials you post to or download from the Web Site, if applicable. This non-identifiable information is used for website and system administration purposes and to improve the Web Site. Your non-identifiable information may be disclosed to others, including CSI subcontractors, and permanently archived for future use.

Cookies - The Web Site may use "cookies", a technology that installs information on a website user's computer to permit the website to recognize future visits using that computer. Cookies enhance the convenience and use of a website. You may choose to decline cookies if your browser permits, but doing so may affect your use of the Web Site and your ability to access certain features of the Web Site.

Personal Information You Specifically Provide to the Web Site

Your Personal Information - During your use of the Web Site, you may be asked to voluntarily provide certain personal information, including, but not limited to, your name and your email address. In additional CSI may also have access to the Internet Protocol (IP) address of your computer.

Use of Your Personal Information - CSI may use your personal information to contact and correspond with you; to respond to your inquiries; to grant access to certain special features or areas of the WebSite (including to any CSI forums or CSI tools, if and where applicable), where you have applied for access to or have posted information to those special features or areas of the WebSite; to track communications with you; to provide you with a customized interactive experience; to help CSI develop new services, tools and website features that meet your needs; to improve the Web Site; to provide you with the Electronic Communications you request; and as otherwise permitted or required by law. By visiting the Web Site and providing CSI with your personal information in connection with a special feature of the Web Site, you signify your consent for CSI to use such information for purposes inherent in that feature.

Electronic Communications from CSI - At any time you may ask CSI to stop sending you Electronic Communications and other information by contacting CSI at info@sugar.ca.

Tracking Information - In addition, CSI may use non-personal information to create aggregate tracking information reports regarding user demographics and traffic patterns relating to the Web Site. The identity or other personal information of individual users is not disclosed in tracking information reports and cannot be acquired from tracking information reports. However, CSI is able to link tracking information to the personal information of users of the Web Site. If and once such a link is made, the linked information is treated as personal information and will be used and disclosed only in accordance with this Policy, and in accordance with the law.

Disclosure of Your Personal Information - CSI may transfer or otherwise disclose the information it collects from you to its employees, agents and service providers if the disclosure will enable these parties to perform a professional or technical support function for CSI. Such parties will be subject to the same obligations as CSI under this Policy. CSI may disclose your personal information to a government institution that has asserted its lawful authority to obtain the information or where CSI has reasonable grounds to believe the information could be useful in the investigation of unlawful activity, or to comply with a subpoena or warrant or an order made by a court, person or body with jurisdiction to compel the production of information, or to comply with court rules regarding the production of records and information, or to protect the rights and property of CSI. If CSI is involved in a reorganization, CSI may also disclose your personal information to the resulting organization.

Storing and Securing Your Information - To help protect the confidentiality of your personal information, CSI employs security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. Nevertheless, due to the nature of the Internet and Internet technologies, security and privacy risks cannot be eliminated and CSI cannot guarantee that your personal information will not be disclosed in ways not otherwise described in this Policy.

Retention of Information - CSI retains your personal information only as long as it is required for the purposes for which it was collected or as required by federal and provincial laws.

Accessing Your Personal Information - You may request access to your personal information and information about the collection, use and disclosure of that information by CSI by contacting CSI at info@sugar.ca. Subject to certain exceptions prescribed by law, you will be given reasonable access to your personal information, and will be entitled to challenge the accuracy and completeness of the information and to have it amended as appropriate. You can help CSI maintain the accuracy of your information by notifying CSI of any changes to your personal information.

Withdrawal of Consent - You may withdraw your consent to the collection, use and disclosure of personal information about you at any time. To do this, please contact CSI at info@sugar.ca. Additionally, we routinely provide "opt out" or "unsubscribe" instructions on our Electronic Communications to provide for removal of your name from future transmissions.

Other Matters

Other Websites - The Website may contain links to other websites or Internet resources, notably those belonging to our partners. When you click on one of those links you are contacting another website or Internet resource that may collect information about you voluntarily or through cookies or other technologies. CSI has no responsibility or liability for or control over those other websites or Internet resources or their collection, use and disclosure of your personal information.

Website Terms of Use - The Web Site Terms of Use governing your use of the Web Site (which may be viewed by clicking here) contains important provisions disclaiming and excluding the liability of CSI and others regarding your use of the Web Site and provisions determining the applicable law and exclusive jurisdiction for the resolution of any disputes regarding your use of the Web Site. Each of those provisions also applies to any disputes that may arise in relation to this Policy and the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information, and are of the same force and effect as if they had been reproduced directly in this Policy.

Former Users - If you stop using the Web Site and have not withdrawn your consent to the collection, use and disclosure of personal information about you in accordance with this Policy, CSI may continue to use and disclose your personal information in accordance with this Policy, as amended from time to time, and subject to compliance with the law.

Privacy Policy Changes - This Policy may be amended by CSI from time to time in CSI’s sole discretion and without any prior notice or liability to you or any other person. The collection, use and disclosure of your personal information by CSI will be governed by the version of this Policy in effect at that time. New versions of this Policy will be posted on this Web Site. Your continued use of the Web Site and receipt or request of any Electronic Communication subsequent to any changes to this Policy will signify that you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information in accordance with the changed Policy. Accordingly, when you use the Web Site or receive or request any Electronic Communication, you should check the date of this Policy and review any changes since the last version. You should also bookmark this page and periodically review this Policy to ensure that you are familiar with the most current version.
