New Video - Sugar 101: Understanding the Blood Glucose Response in Type 2 Diabetes
For people living with Type 2 Diabetes, the body handles dietary carbohydrates differently compared to those without diabetes. The team of registered dietitians and nutrition researchers at the Canadian Sugar Institute (CSI) are excited to share a new whiteboard video highlighting how the blood glucose response differs between someone with and without Type 2 Diabetes.
This video discusses:
- The process of how blood glucose levels respond to dietary carbohydrates, such as sugars and starches, under normal conditions (“Sally”), and how they differ for someone with Type 2 Diabetes (“Joe”), and
- Tips on how to manage blood glucose levels by making healthy food choices. For example, eating a balanced diet at regular times throughout the day, emphasizing carbohydrate choices that provide key nutrients and choosing small amounts of foods with added sugars.
This video has been reviewed and approved by CSI's Scientific Advisory Council as well as a panel of registered dietitians and diabetes educators. It is available to view on our YouTube channel and website in both English and French and can be used as an educational resource in your communications with clients or patients.
